It was winter break, mostly all of the residents at Hogwarts had gone home to be with there families and share family traditions of Christmas and what not. However there where the few who chose to stay at the school, like Raven Istravoni. She usually went home every chance she got, but this year her father and Raul would not be home and that was really the only reason she went, therefore she selected to save herself a packing trip and stayed home.
It was during break on one of the particularly cold and snow days, that she decided to take a walk through the courtyard. It reminded her much of the one at her home, only the courtyard at Hogwarts didn't have the warmth nor did the plants have the love and attention her Nana put into her garden.
Raven had put on one of her favorite snow outfits that included tan suede snow-boots with fur lining, her best pair of jeans, and a beautifully designed chocolate colored tee with tan gloves and matching jacket.
She was walking down one of the well beaten paths no covered in snow around the far right fountain, when she spotted another person in the courtyard near the center fountain and stopped to observed who it was.

((haha ok in truth on this site, summer holidays has just finished so they're starting a new school year. but this can be a major one-off. =P ))
Ryan strolled, bored, down the Courtyard paths. He was amazingly bored and beginning to wish he hadn't lied to his parents about the continuing DADA lessons that Grant had agreed to do while the holidays were due. Grant would have easily said that he didn't mind skipping the lessons while Ryan saw his parents. But Ryan took the opportunity to skip a dreaded few weeks with his guardians and stayed at school. Being bored.
As he neared the center fountain, staying far away enough so his black jeans and white cotton jumper wouldn't get splashed, he wondered if it would be that bad going home. He'd get to see Dawn more often- she'd promised to come down for Christmas but he knew she'd been given some muggle car and would be having lots of fun with it. Without him. He didn't feel jealous of that car (lol) but he wished that the only thing to cheer him up here wasn't the DADA lessons he had with Nathaniel. They were going fabulously of course, Ryan couldn't help but realise he was a natural in the subject. But he was missing his friends and was bored. Staring into the falling water he told himself that if things didn't get more exciting soon then he'd go home.

Raven narrowed her eyes and focused on who it could be. Then the face registered with the name; it was Ryan Parker. She stood there for a moment, still hidden well behide the fountain and thought about what she new about Parker. "Parker... That name sounds familair... Papa knows a Parker family... but Parker is such a common name... What do I know about that particular Parker family?" The stared at the ground. She knew from evesdropping that this Parker family had a son, and that the husband and wife had been both in Slytherin, but their only son had gotten put in Slytherin. Raven grinned. "It sounds just like this Parker... I wonder where his little tag-along girlfriend is... Gone for the holidays without her boyfriend?" Raven tutted to herself. "Tis a shame..." Raven smirked and slowly walked up behind Parker, not making any nosie at all and stood there for a moment before speaking. "Riddle me this? What makes a Gryffindor such as yourself Parker wnat to stay over for the holidays? Family problems prehaps? Or do you just like control over what you do, so you stay to have that freedom?" Raven tilted her head and gave her best smirking smile she could.

Ryan glanced up to see Raven. He couldn't lie; Raven was hot. But she was also a snotty, stuck-up Slytherin who Dawn spoke of in harsh, angry tones. But Ryan was bored and annoyed, so he didn't retort back and instead just sighed. "Right on the first try. Bloody parents. What about you?" He asked the Slytherin, turning around to face her and sitting on the edge of the fountain, leaning backwards but not enough for the fountain to splash him.

Raven raised an eyebrow at him. She expected a snappy comeback, a rude retort, or even a cold shoulder. What she got was a civilized response. Raven was so shocked, she took a seat beside him. "Not necessarily parents, just lack there of." Raven said giving a short-lived smile. "My papa and Raul wrote me saying that they had business and wouldn't be home during the holidays, so I wrote back telling them I'd just stay here, it'd give Sancia her over due vacation anyways."

Ryan nodded. He'd had the same situation before. His parents were off somewhere like Maldives or Bali, usually somewhere tropical and warm. He was never invited; not like he would come in the first place, but he liked to have the option. He liked options. Not having and option was always bad and to Ryan, it meant you weren't completely in control of the situation. And Ryan liked being in control.
"Sancia?" Ryan asked stately. He ignored the fact that the names of the men gave a slight bell in his mind a ring, and then when he thought about it so did Istravoni. He remembered suddenly, his parents and a few older friends in the office. Papers were scattered on the desk and as Ryan walked in he remembered the voice. One of the men was speaking, cold and harsh. 'The Istranovi's, certainly. They must too. and that was it. The men had caught sight of Ryan and glared, while his father sent a small jinx to him that sent him flying backwards, out of the office and into the wall opposite. He still had a slightly bruise.

"Yes. Sancia is like... You could says she is the closest thing to a mother I have. My mama died when I was born, so Sancia took care of me. She was the housekeeper at first but she became my mother's very good friend," Raven then stared at the ground and half smiled, "Papa said I wouldn't go to no one but Nani, I mean Sancia. Sorry... I grew up calling her Nani or Nana." Raven then looked over at Parker and frowned slightly when she saw him glaring hard at the ground. "A lot on you mind... Ryan? May I call you Ryan?" She asked, using the manners her Nana instilled into her since she could walk.

Ryan smiled slightly as Raven talked about Sancia. "She sounds nice." He simply stated. He didn't feel like talking much and short sentences were all he could bother with. Ryan didn't say 'I'm sorry..' in a pitiful voice to Raven when she said her mother died when she was young. Clearly Raven had got over it and he wasn't sorry- he didn't know Raven or her mother. Why should he feel sorry she died? "Sure, you may call me Ryan if I can call you Raven. Nothing much on my mind, just some slightly haunting memories." He said, with a small smile. "What does your father do?" He asked her, wondering if that would open the light to why he'd heard the name before.

Ravens eyes narrowed automadicaly when Ryan asked what her father did. "Yes you my call me Raven. Haunting memories hmm... I've never had haunting memories... they must be horrible." She said trying not to feel sorry for him. She knew from his reputation that he was not one to take pity and as he must have known, she was not one to give it out. "As for my papa... He works with a muggle/magiacal company over seas. That is where he meet Raul, his business manager. Raul is like the older brother I never had, I've known him so long. I don't know exactly what they do... Every time I asked 'where are you going,' or 'let me go with you,' they'd reply, "No pumpkin, you can't go. We're just taking care of business sweetheart.'" Raven said, putting an Italian accent on the reply. She then smiled. "I'd cry when they'd leave when I was little. Raul would say 'How about this? Your Papa and I will bring you back something, sound good?' Of course to a child, it sounded great and they keep their promises, so after a while I didn't complain." She paused then looked over at Ryan. "What does your father do?" If his father was who she that it was... she'd know alot about Ryan that he hasn't told her yet.

Ryan eyed Raven as she asked the question. He didn't trust her. Not just yet. "Same." He merely said, not bothering to say anything else. He was tired, the memories were pissing him off big time. He just wanted to sleep, eat, and see Dawn. Maybe he could go to ther house- surprise her, sometime. The thought came to him and he began to plan it, a grin appearing on his face. But then it fell away as he realised- her mother hated him. No chance on staying at hers for a few nights. Unless they went away somewhere.

Raven knew there was more too it, but she could also hint the annoiacne in his voice. "Oh..." was all she could say. "You know... sometimes I wonder... why wheren't you put in slytherin... true you not as mean as a regualr Slytherin, but you do have some of the characteristics. i don't want to make you mad, I'm just asking... Where your parents in Slytherin? Some people would say apples don't fall from the tree, but if thats the case... you fell pretty far." She laughed trying to loosen any tension, because at the moment she didn't want to start trouble, just conversation. Something may of her house mates lacked.

Ryan turned and sat on the foutain edge, one hand in the water. The droplets were now wetting his robes and hair slightly but he couldn't be bothered to care. "Yeah my parents were both Slyths. Sorting Hat couldn't be sure about me. Got given a choice, which is rare. I choice Gryffindor to be less like my father, and to piss him off a hell of a lot. Worked." He grinned a little. "And I'm bloody glad my apple fell as far as it did." He stated flatly.
